A man wielding a pipe confronted a woman outside her Victoria Avenue home early Saturday morning and took off with the woman's purse.

Thunder Bay Police said the victim was unloading her car around 3 a.m. when the man approached and offered to help with her packages.  When she declined, the assailant returned with the pipe and demanded her purse.

The woman was not hurt.

She told police the robber wore a black baseball cap and black hoodie.

Police said he fled on foot but apparently arrived in the neighbourhood driving a truck that had been stolen Friday evening from a home on North Norah Sreet.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.
