Unless the plans are changed, a new long-term care facility in Thunder Bay will cost millions of dollars more than expected.
CBC News has learned more details about a budget challenge confronting the planned Centre of Excellence for Seniors in Thunder Bay. The project bids have come in between $10 million and $18 million more than the original estimate.
In 2007, architects pegged the cost to be roughly $64 million.
A spokesperson for St. Joseph's Care Group says four "valid" bids were recently opened. The cost of those proposals ranges between $74 million and $82 million.
St. Joseph's says it is discussing the bid results with the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care with the intention of finding a solution that allows the project to proceed.
