The former chair of the Thunder Bay Christmas Cheer Fund appears in court next month on a charge of fraud.

Thunder Bay police report 60-year-old Linda Gambee is charged with "fraud over $5,000" and "breach of trust."

The police service's Economic Crime Unit began an investigation after receiving a complaint involving "financial concerns" last month, the service said in a release.

It's alleged Gambee defrauded the Christmas Cheer Fund of roughly $22,000 while she served as chair.

She has a court date of March 4.

Last September, Gambee stepped down as chair of the fund, after being voted off the board of directors of the Canadian Lakehead Exhbition.

At the time, she said the head of Christmas Cheer has to work closely with the CLE, and it would now be difficult for her to continue in that job.
