Thunder Bay police say thieves broke through two walls in order to rob a jewelry store either Monday night or early Tuesday morning.

According to a written release issued Wednesday, police said a "significant" robbery took place at Exquisite Gold and Gems.

When officers arrived at the Memorial Avenue business Tuesday morning, an employee reportedly told them about a large hole in one of the store's interior walls.

That wall separated the shop from an empty space in the same shopping plaza, a police spokesperson said on Wednesday. The thieves allegedly entered through an unlocked door of another business in the plaza, cut through an interior wall to the empty space, then cut through another interior wall into the jewelry store.

The suspects smashed jewelry display cases and took merchandise, police said.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
