Trees in the Thunder Bay area are starting to show the effects of a hot, dry summer.

Local forester Vince Rutter says that the leaves are starting to change colour earlier this year because of the weather.

"Tree stress is causing early colour change," Rutter said. "That can be either things like soil compaction or, it’s usually a lack of moisture."

Rutter says that around this time of year home-owners should water tree thoroughly, apply mulch and stay away from the root system.
