Thunder Bay police say health professionals and the police youth section are following up on a weekend incident that sent several teenaged girls to hospital.

A news release from police Monday said five girls--all friends from different addresses in the city--required treatment for intentional drug overdoses.

However, on Tuesday, police reported three girls were involved. They said they have not confirmed the reasons for the attempted overdose. What substance the girls took has not been released.

Health professionals and family members are currently providing support to the girls.

In light of the incident, Thunder Bay police have asked parents to keep a close eye on what their children are doing.  The statement on Tuesday said the incident is "a reminder as to the complexity and difficulties many youth face during their teen years".
