A security guard is posted at the scene of a fire on Cumming Street, where a burned-out building is encased in ice and snow.

Firefighters were called to 145 Cumming St. in Thunder Bay on Sunday.

Flames were already showing from the ground to the roof line of the two-storey structure when they arrived.

It took five fire trucks and 22 firefighters to extinguish the blaze but the building was gutted.

The Thunder Bay Fire Service says the building had been vacant.

All windows and doors were covered with plywood when the fire started.

Investigators are still looking into the cause of the fire.

A considerable amount of water from the firefighting effort remains on the street adjacent to the property.
