Ex-Chamber of Commerce head to run in next provincial election
Harold Wilson, former Chamber of Commerce head, named Ontario PC candidate for Thunder Bay-Atikokan
The former head of Thunder Bay's Chamber of Commerce will run in the next provincial election.
On Saturday, the Thunder Bay-Atikokan Ontario PC Riding Association acclaimed Harold Wilson as its candidate. The riding has been held by Liberal MPP Bill Mauro for the last 10 years.
In a news release, Wilson said he wants to increase private sector job growth in the North. Wilson said his ideas include repealing the Far North Act, balancing the budget to encourage businesses to expand and hire, and taking "a more flexible and responsive approach to regulation."
Wilson also said he would focus on "affordable energy" and eliminate "costly and failed wind and solar subsidies."
He is the second high-profile resident of Thunder Bay to declare his intention to run for a seat at Queen's Park if an election is called. Last month, city councillor Andrew Foulds announced he is seeking the NDP nomination in the riding of Thunder Bay-Superior North. That riding has been held by Liberal MPP Michael Gravelle for 18 years.
