Ontario Provincial Police are investigating after an infant from Eabametoong First Nation died on Monday in a London, Ont. hospital.
The six month-old, who was in "extreme medical distress," according to an OPP press release, was airlifted from Eabametoong to the London Health Sciences Centre on March 11.
The baby died three days later.
A post-mortem was done on March 15, police said, but further testing is required to determine a cause of death.
Provincial police, through the criminal investigation branch, are mandated to provide case management and oversight in all death investigations of children who are five years old and younger, police said.
The OPP is working with Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service on this case.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
