Daniel Brooks, Michelle Parker killed in Hwy 61 crash

Two 28-year-old Thunder Bay residents are dead following a crash between a truck and a car early Saturday morning on Highway 61, between Arthur Street and the Harbour Expressway.
Two 28-year-old Thunder Bay residents are dead following a crash between a truck and a car early Saturday morning on Highway 61, between Arthur Street and the Harbour Expressway.

Ontario Provincial Police report the driver of a Chevrolet Silverado was southbound on Highway 61 when the driver struck the guard rails on the southbound side of the highway. The truck then veered across the highway and collided with a northbound Chrysler PT Cruiser.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue had to extricate the occupants from both vehicles.

The driver of the car, Daniel Brooks, 28, was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, Michelle Parker, also 28, was transported to hospital by ambulance, where she succumbed to her injuries. Both hail from Thunder Bay.

The driver of the truck was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Highway 61 was closed for about 11 hours as OPP collision investigators inspected the scene.

The OPP says its investigation continues.

A funeral for Brooks and Parker will be held at the chapel of the Harbourview Funeral Centre in Thunder Bay at 11 a.m. Friday. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service
