Two small beagles went baying after a bear — deep into the northwestern Ontario bush — until their bark could be heard no more.
The Pachnosky family of Thunder Bay thought they'd lost their four-year-old beagles, Bandit and Shooter, for good this summer, when they were out at their camp. The dogs took off after a bear and didn't come back for a week.
Steve and Misty Pachnosky and their four children feared for their dogs’ wellbeing until they came home to a phone message from Howard Ollum, an outfitter in English River, 70 kilometres away. He and his wife Debbie found the dogs and — thanks to the identification on the dogs’ collars — they were able to contact the family and get them safely to their owners.
