Anglers in the Thunder Bay area may have trouble buying bait minnows this long weekend, because they are in short supply.
Late ice on the lakes has made it difficult to trap them in the numbers that are needed.
Larry's Baits in Kakabeka Falls, for instance, on an average long weekend sells close to 17,000 minnows.
The owner of the shop, Larry Bureyko, said minnow trappers have been struggling this year.
"The problem with getting bait right now is there is ice on the ponds, and it is just leaving, so they have been unable to get out there and do some trapping," Bureyko said.
Bureyko said trapping conditions have improved now, and he hopes to get a good supply by Friday evening.
