Four people are dead after a motor vehicle collision between two cars near Marathon on Sunday night.

Another female passenger was airlifted to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre with life-threatening injuries. A male passenger was treated in Marathon Hospital and later released.

Ontario Provincial Police say two vehicles collided on Highway 627 approximately eight kilometres south of Highway 17. It happened just before 10:30 p.m.

The OPP say emergency staff from Marathon and Pic River First Nation helped to respond.

Police say they are investigating the collision. The names of the deceased will not be released until next of kin are notified.
