One tourist went missing Thursday, after another was rescued, in unrelated incidents in northwestern Ontario.

The Kenora detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police received a report of a missing person at around 10:30 p,m, near Sioux Narrows on Lake of the Woods.

OPP and the OPP marine unit were dispatched to the scene and were assisted by Sioux Narrows emergency services, after a man fell into the lake and could not be located.

The missing person has been identified as Roger Haberer, 56, from Nebraska.

The OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit is enroute to Sioux Narrows to continue the search.

Earlier Thursday, Rainy River District OPP  responded to an emergency distress beacon in Quetico Provincial Park.

A distress signal was received through the SPOT international emergency centre located in Texas.

The location the signal was sent from was only accessible by air, so police chartered a float plane to travel to the scene.

When they arrived they found a 60-year-old man from Duluth, Minnnesota had suffered a broken leg. The people he was with had come across another party which had activated its SPOT locator to call for help.

The man was taken to Eva Lake and transported to Atikokan hospital by ambulance.
