John Pollesel is no longer the director of base metals, north Atlantic operations with Vale.

Nickle-mining giant Vale has cut John Pollesel from its operations as part of company restructuring. (

A spokesperson with Vale said his job was cut because the company is in the process of a business-wide review to address short-term challenges.

Angie Robson said one of the steps in that restructuring process is to build an organizational model that sees site-specific leads at each of the company’s major operating sites in Canada, reporting directly to the global headquarters for Base Metals in Toronto, she said.

Pollesel played a pivotal role in developing the company's Canadian and UK operations, Robson noted.

"We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavours," she said.
