Sudbury minister charged with manslaughter in wife's death
A Sudbury man is facing manslaughter charges in the wake of his disabled wife's death.
Police said the woman died as a result of injuries sustained from alleged neglect on the part of her only caregiver, her husband.
The woman died in March 2011, after she was taken to the emergency department. She died in hospital a week later.
Nico Vanderstoel has been charged with manslaughter and failing to provide the necessities of life.
According to the website of St. Stephen's on the Hill United Church in Sudbury, Vanderstoel is a minister at that church.
On Tuesday Vanderstoel was arrested by the Greater Sudbury Police Criminal Investigation Division and charged. He appeared in bail court and was released with conditions.
