Sudbury man loses dirt bike, but survives plunge into lake
Police chief tweets man will have something to discuss 'at his next Mensa meeting'
A Sudbury man survived a plunge into an icy lake yesterday, after his dirt bike crashed through the ice.
Greater Sudbury Police say they were called out to Long Lake at about 1 p.m. on Sunday, after a man went through the ice.
The man was able to make it back to shore, though his dirt bike sank.
Police are reminding the public that the ice is too thin for vehicles to cross bodies of water in the area.
Chief Frank Elsner, who will soon become the new chief in Victoria, B.C., tweeted both a sarcastic remark about the man's intelligence and a reminder that these types of emergency calls create risks for first responders.
