Officials continue to comb through ruins after fire razes downtown Sudbury building

Two bodies have been pulled from the rubble of a 20-unit rooming house on Elizabeth Street in Sudbury that was razed by fire on Wednesday. More people are still unaccounted for, officials say. (Supplied)

A Wednesday fire on Elizabeth Street in downtown Sudbury has claimed a second victim, Sudbury police confirm.
Forensic anthropologist and Laurentian University professor Scott Fairgrieve has been called in to help with the investigation and extraction of the body.
Police said they have accounted for 15 of the 17 people thought to be in the house — and the two missing could be the victims. However, police said there could have also been people visiting.
The blaze broke out at the 20-unit rooming house on Wednesday and officials confirmed the first victim on Thursday.
No details have been released about either person.
A spokesperson with the Ontario Fire Marshal's Office said they are still trying to determine the exact cause of the blaze, but said it appears to be linked to an explosion. James Allen said they are investigating a nearby gas line.
The Red Cross has temporarily placed 14 of the former rooming house tenants in a hotel.
Police said more updates will be forthcoming.
