OPP identify man found dead in Highway 17 ditch

Ontario Provincial Police say a man found dead in a ditch on the side of Highway 17 last Friday was from Elliot Lake, Ont.
Police said the deceased was found Friday morning in a ditch that lies within the community of Serpent River.
On Sunday, police identified the deceased as 44-year-old Gerard Martin Smits.
A post-mortem has been scheduled for Tuesday.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the man's death.
