Deanne Sutherland said she felt lucky to be able to spend time with her two-year-old son on Family Day.

The First Nations woman didn't have that closeness with her own parents growing up in Moosonee, Ont.

Today she lives in Sudbury, hundreds of kilometres away from her homeland. Sutherland made the move south to get an education and make a new life for her family.
