Timmins mine on hiring spree as it reopens

Liberty Mines is set to resume operations at its McWatters Mine in Timmins early next year, and it's looking to hire employees.
The nickel mine and mill were shut down earlier this year because the tailings pond was full.
Liberty announced Wednesday that the provincial government has approved its plan to upgrade the tailings pond, which the company estimates will take 10 to 12 weeks.
CEO Chris Stewart said the company is also looking to hire employees for its new Hart Mine.
"We'll be employing just over 100 people to start with, so we're looking at about 105 to 110 people with the McWatters Mine and the Redstone Mill, and then we're looking at starting to construct the Hart Mine next year as well, and that will be an additional 100 to 110 people,” Stewart said.
“So we'll be employing a significant number of people here in Timmins."
An open house about the projects — including information about employment — was scheduled for 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Timmins Inn & Suites.
