Police are also encouraging all home owners to be extra diligent and cautious when answering their doors to unknown callers.

Police also offered the following safety tips:

  • If you have a screen door, you can lock it and talk to person through the screen door. If you don't have a screen door you can still talk through the closed door.
  • Do not let people you don't know into your residence. If someone attends at your home and asks to use the phone don't let them in.  Offer to make the call for them.
  • If someone knocks on your door and asks for a person who does not live there, do not provide them with any of your information.  It may be legitimate but it could also be a potential thief looking to see if anyone was home.
