A man from Waukegan, Ill. is facing a second degree murder charge following a 2011 fatal fire that claimed the life of a 48-year-old woman in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.

The house fire happened at 606 Wellington Street East and Sault Ste. Marie Police concluded the cause was arson. Leeanne Hill, 48, died in the blaze.

Sault Police said they worked with the Crown to extradite the accused, Gregory Flesher of Illinois, back to Sault Ste. Marie to answer to the charge.

But they hit a delay, as Flesher, 50, was in custody on unrelated criminal offences in the United States at the time.

He is now in custody in Sault Ste. Marie and faces charges of second degree murder and arson. He was expected to appear in court on Friday.
