Porcupine man dies in Hwy 101 crash

Provincial police have released the name of a 33-year-old man from Porcupine who died Thursday morning in a crash on Highway 101 near Matheson yesterday.

Provincial police have released the name of a 33-year-old man from Porcupine who died Thursday morning in a crash on Highway 101 near Matheson yesterday.

Stephane Gauthier died after his pickup truck collided with a tractor trailer, OPP said.

Fire crews responded to the scene to put out a fire caused by the crash and to get the two drivers out of their vehicles, but Gauthier died from his injuries.

There's no word on the extent of the other 57-year-old man's injuries.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Police said roads were bare and dry at the time of the collision and weather and visibility conditions were favourable as well.
