OPP wait on hearing before acting on mine road blockade
Provincial police say inclement weather has prevented officers from travelling to Attawapiskat protest
Provincial police say some of its officers are in contact by phone with protesters involved with the blockade to the De Beers Victor diamond mine near Attawapiskat.
However a hearing scheduled to take place Thursday between the protesters and company will determine the next steps, OPP added.
Some Attawapiskat band members have been blocking the road to the mine throughout the month.
A court injunction was issued last week, but the company said it has not been acted upon.
OPP spokesperson Marc Depatie also said officers have not been able to physically travel to the site due to the weather.
He added whatever action is taken next will be done in a culturally sensitive manner.
