New Democrat MPP Michael Mantha wants confidential records pulled from the Algo Centre Mall before it's demolished.

His constituency office was in the Elliot Lake mall, where a roof collapsed more than five months ago.

A demolition company is currently in talks with the city to obtain a demolition permit. But before that permit is granted, Mantha said he wants to meet with the company to discuss the handling of important records — especially public health records.

"That [should] really not land up in a landfill site," he said.

"It should be returned because you don't want to see that stuff land where there might be potential for a breach of confidentiality."

Mantha said he's also asked to meet with representatives from the mall.
