Police still searching for man swept away by the current in Mattawa

Ontario Provincial Police are still searching for a 40-year-old man who was carried away by the current while swimming in the Ottawa River in Mattawa, Ont., on Saturday.

OPP responded to a call on Thursday at about 8 a.m. at a residence along C Line Road southwest of Wroxeter, north of London.

Provincial Police are still searching for a 40-year-old man who was carried away by the current while swimming in the Ottawa River in Mattawa, Ont., on Saturday.   

The area where the man entered the water is described as having a very strong current, varying depths and not suitable for swimming said police.

The man has been identified as Arthur Lavoie of Mattawa.

The OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit, North Bay Detachment Marine Unit and the OPP Unmanned Aerial System are still on scene and actively searching the area.
