Man in custody after shot fired, lockdown in Attawapiskat

One man is in custody after police in Attawapiskat responded to reports of a shot fired in the community on Wednesday morning.

One man is in custody after police in Attawapiskat responded to reports of a shot fired in the community on Wednesday morning.

Attawapiskat’s school was in lockdown and the airport was closed while The Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service police searched for a 36-year-old man in the community.

The police service said officers took the man into custody without incident around noon.

The Kattawapiskak Elementary School posted a note on its Facebook page indicating the lockdown has ended and the school is back open.

Attawapiskat First Nation is located about 630 kilometres north of Timmins, Ont.
