A man is facing several charges after police say his vehicle was involved in two overnight collisions in Sudbury.

Greater Sudbury Police issued a news release saying that officers were called to investigate two separate collisions along the Kingsway at about 1:30 a.m.

Police said a 29-year-old man failed to stop for a stop sign on Clearview Avenue and ended up hitting a parked car on Hillsboro Street.

The driver then sped off to the Kingsway, "almost striking several vehicles" while heading west along the road.

Moments later, the driver lost control and struck a light standard at the intersection of the Kingsway and Cochrane Street.

That second collision knocked the light standard down. It also left the man’s Lexus with significant damage to its passenger side.

The man drove until his car could not drive any further. Police said he then tried to leave the scene on foot but was "held by witnesses until police arrived."

When arrested, police said the man was found in possession of three grams of cocaine.

A 29-year-old man is now charged with two counts of failing to remain at the scene of a crime, one count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and possession of a controlled substance.

He is scheduled to appear in court for a bail hearing on Tuesday.
