Man arrested at Sudbury hotel, faces arson, assault charges
A man is facing charges of arson and assault after a number of strange incidents at a hotel early Sunday morning, according to Greater Sudbury Police.
A man called 911 at about 5 a.m., police say, claiming that people had entered his room at the Ledo Hotel on Elgin Street and were attempting to set it on fire.
But when police arrived, they determined that the person who made the call had intentionally set a paper plate on fire inside his room.
Police allege this same individual then went to a hotel common area and attacked someone after lighting the paper plate on fire. The victim did not seek medical attention, police say.
The hotel was not damaged as a result of the fire, though police say the odour of smoke filled the room and hallway.
A 26-year-old man now faces charges of arson, assault and breach of probation, police say.
He was expected to appear in court today.
