Ivan Kostyrko and his friends got more than they bargained for on a recent canoe trip along the Mattawa River.
The group was paddling on Sunday, Aug. 10 near Paresseaux Falls when they noticed something was amiss. Debris was floating by, including water bottles and clothing.
As for the canoeists from North Bay, Ontario Provincial Police say the pair were inexperienced paddlers and unfamiliar with the route.
In a press release, OPP said they had both taken their life jackets off before they lost control of the canoe on a set of rapids and fell into the water, colliding with rocks. Both people sustained minor injuries.
