Fatal car crashes kill 2, injure 12 near Sudbury
Police identify the two men killed in accidents on Sudbury area roads
Two people are dead and twelve others were injured in a series of crashes on two highways in northeastern Ontario on Thursday.
Provincial police said on Highway 69 near Richard Lake there were three incidents in the same spot close to 3 p.m.
The fist two crashes saw vehicles go into opposite ditches at the same bend in the road. Both resulted in minor injuries.
But around the same time, a southbound car then crossed the centre line and collided head-on with a minivan, police said.
The driver of the car was killed and three of his passengers were airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.
Police report Nicholas Aaron Cada, 32, of Peterborough, was the driver.
Then, close to 5 p.m. on Highway 17 in Wahnapitae, OPP said a car and a pickup truck collided head-on just west of the Highway 537 junction.
The man driving the car was killed, while the passengers in the other vehicle were treated for minor injuries.
Police have identified Brian Vaughn Lynds, 34, of Garson, as the driver.
