OPP say there is no public safety concern

A man is in custody after a daylong standoff at an Elliot Lake apartment building.

Provincial police say they received a call at about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday about a man threatening to blow up an apartment complex on Dunn Road.

Officers evacuated the building and nearby homes before beginning negotiations with the man. A neighbouring school was also locked down as a precaution.

A police crisis negotiator attempted to communicate with the man for most of the day, but by evening police said the suspect still refused to surrender.

Tactical officers entered the home at about 10:30 p.m. and took the man into custody. There was no immediate word on any charges.

Police say no one was hurt and the other tenants returned home Wednesday night.
