Sudbury police take17-year-old suspect into custody
Sudbury police are investigating the first murder of 2014 in the Donovan neighbourhood.
Police were called to the the area of Bloor and Kathleen Streets on Tuesday afternoon after a report of a stabbing.
A 20-year-old man was located who had been stabbed with an edged weapon.
He was taken to hospital and died as a result.
Police say the victim has been identified as Allen Ashawasagai of Sudbury.
A 17-year-old girl has been charged with second degree murder and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. She will remain in custody until a court appearance on June 12.
Police say this was not a random incident.
"We wanted to reassure the public that this wasn't a random act, that the individuals involved knew each other and that we are confident that there are no further public safety concerns,” said Sudbury police Inspt. Rob Thirkill.
