It was a violent weekend for Sudbury police as officers dealt with stabbings and beatings which began on Friday night in Sudbury's downtown area.

A 34-year old Sudbury man is facing several charges — including attempted murder — following two stabbings.

Sudbury police said close to 2:30 a.m. Saturday, a man in the area of Elgin and MacKenzie Streets was stabbed in his upper body and another man was stabbed in the hand.

Both were taken to hospital — the first was admitted with serious injuries.

On Sunday a suspect was taken into custody, police said. He was expected to answer to his charges in court this Monday morning.

Severe beating

Two people were also taken into custody after being accused of severely beating a man and a woman on Friday night.

Police said the assaults happened close to 10 p.m. on Suffolk Lane near Kathleen Street.

Both of the victims were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

A 22-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman were arrested yesterday and were expected to answer to charges in bail court Monday morning.
