Banana Boat sunscreen a possible fire risk
Energizer Canada voluntarily recalls continuous spray products

The maker of continuous spray Banana Boat sun care products has issued a recall due to a risk that the product could ignite on the skin if it is exposed to a flame or spark before drying.
Energizer Holdings Inc. announced a voluntary withdrawal of the products in Canada and the U.S. on Friday.
The company has received four reports of adverse events involving burns associated with the continuous spray products in the U.S., and one in Canada.
“Energizer believes that this issue is associated with the product delivery system, specifically the size of the spray valve opening on the affected products,” a press release from the company said.

As a result, the product is taking longer to dry on the skin than is typical with other continuous sprays.”
Burn experts said Friday the problem appears to be extremely rare.
"We've found no evidence of this happening before the incidents that came to our attention," said Dan Dillard, executive director of the Burn Prevention Network. Dillard's group was contacted earlier in the year about two burns related to UltraMist. One case involved a man who was standing near a barbecue grill, the other case involved a woman working with welding equipment. Both cases resulted in second- and third-degree burns.
Dillard pointed out that the ingredients used in aerosol sprays are known to be flammable.
"The alcohol and petroleum products listed on the containers are flammable, so the only thing you're missing in the heat triangle is an ignition source," Dillard said.
The affected Banana Boat products were distributed nationwide to wholesalers and retailers between January 2010 and Sept. 30, 2012.
