Dave Courage, the man who survived the Sept. 4 shooting at Montreal's Metropolis theatre during the Parti Québécois' victory rally, will be getting some extra help from the new provincial government.

Courage has been struggling to pay his bills since the shooting, which has left him primarily bed bound due to pain in his legs and lower back.

After seeing an interview with Courage, aired on Radio-Canada and CBC Thursday, the provincial government decided to speed up the process for his workers compensation and make it available immediately.

The 27-year-old stage technician arrived at the Metropolis around 11:30 p.m. on Sept. 4 to help dismantle the set used by the PQ. Courage said just minutes before he planned to go inside to work, a man shot in his direction and then set the doorway on fire.

Courage and a coworker were hit by the same bullet while standing at the back entrance of the theatre in downtown Montreal, while Pauline Marois was inside giving her victory speech.

Lighting technician Denis Blanchette, 48, died after being shot.

Richard Henry Bain, a Mont Tremblant-area businessman, was charged with 16 offences in connection to the shooting and is set to appear in court in October.
