In a recent rant on CBC's The Rick Mercer Report, Mercer tackled the issue of teen suicide.

Pointing to a statistic that suggests nearly 300 young Canadians take their own lives every year, Mercer said adults have a greater responsibility to educate and support bullied teens. Mercer also suggested that teachers and parents take a stricter approach with the bullies themselves.

Referring to a viral campaign aimed at bullied gay teens called "It Gets Better", Mercer exclaimed "we have to make it better now. Three hundred kids is 300 too many." A spate of teen suicides related to bullying have increased public awareness of the issue.
