A 27-year-old disabled man who was severely beaten in his downtown Winnipeg apartment has died.
Harvey Sanderson had been in hospital in critical condition since he was found inside his suite by a health-care worker on Saturday morning.
Police say Sanderson, who was wheelchair-bound because of a brittle bone disease, met a man and woman outside the apartment building where he lives in the 300 block of Kennedy Street.
He did not really know the couple, but voluntarily invited them upstairs to his suite at about 11:30 p.m. CT Friday, police said.
Once the couple was inside the suite, the man was attacked. Police would not say if a weapon was used or not.
The man's health-care worker found him about 12 hours later, at about 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
A man and woman, both 27, were arrested soon after and charged with robbery and aggravated assault.
The man, John Raven Ward, was already wanted by police on an outstanding arrest warrant. The woman, Bobbi Melissa McKay, was also charged with two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
Police have not yet upgraded the charges, saying they are still investigating.
The cause of death must first be determined.
An autopsy has been scheduled.
