Four people have been killed and two injured when a float plane crashed in a remote area of northern Quebec, Canadian Forces Search and Rescue officials say.
The De Havilland Beaver owned by Air Saguenay crashed in a densely wooded area near Chute-des-Passes, Que., at about 5:25 p.m. ET officials said. It was travelling toward Lac des Quatres from Lac Morang.
Quebec provincial police Sgt. Benoît Richard said all six people on board were men and five of the six have the same last name, but he declined to identify them.
A Griffon helicopter from CFB Bagotville, Que., transported the injured to hospital in Chicoutimi. Two other helicopters from CFB Trenton and CFB Greenwood, N.S., were also at the scene of the crash.
The pilot is said to have made an emergency call as he was trying to land after encountering bad weather. Hail had been forecast in the region.
Two investigators from the Transportation Safety Board were expected to arrive on the scene of the crash on Saturday.
Chute-des-Passes is roughly 150 kilometres north of Chicoutimi.
