A video released Friday from the court martial of Capt. Robert Semrau shows grainy footage of a wounded insurgent in the wake of a firefight in Afghanistan.

The video is evidence in the trial of Semrau, 36, who is facing a second-degree murder charge in the shooting death of an unarmed Taliban prisoner in Afghanistan in October 2008.

The brief video was shot on a cellphone camera by a member of the Afghan National Army, but faces have been blurred and the soundtrack removed by order of the court.

The footage shows Afghan forces with a small group of Canadian soldiers in the aftermath of some fighting. The soldiers are seen checking a Taliban casualty. The injured Taliban fighter does not appear to move in the video.

The footage does not show Semrau fire two bullets into the body, as the prosecution claims he did after allegedly telling his comrades: "Turn around … you don't need to see this."
