The casket carrying the latest Canadian soldier to die in the Afghanistan mission is scheduled to arrive at CFB Trenton, Ont., on Sunday afternoon.

Pte. Kevin McKay, 24, who was originally from Richmond Hill, Ont., was based in Edmonton.

McKay was killed when an improvised explosive device detonated during a night patrol on Thursday, near the village of Nakhonay, 15 kilometres southwest of Kandahar city.

Gov. Gen. Michaëlle Jean, Defence Minister Peter MacKay and Gen. Walter Natynczyk, chief of the defence staff, are expected to attend the ceremony at CFB Trenton.

The ceremony will be followed by a trip along the Highway of Heroes, Highway 401, to Toronto.
