This is the weekend most Canadians lose an hour of sleep as they switch to daylight time from standard time.

Before going to bed Saturday night, timepieces should be set one hour later. The major Canadian exception is Saskatchewan, which stays on standard time year round.

Some studies have shown that on the Monday following the spring time change, the number of traffic accidents has risen as much as 17 per cent — with sleep experts blaming the lost hour of shuteye.

Studies also show no major reduction in traffic accidents in the fall when clocks are set one hour earlier, giving drivers a little extra nap time.

This year, daylight time ends on Nov. 7.
