A man drowned trying to save his daughter and his older brother was fighting for his life on Wednesday in the fourth drowning in as many days in Ontario's Muskoka region.
Wednesday's incident occurred at Bala Falls, just a few kilometres from Moon River — where three men drowned over the weekend while swimming near the waterfalls.
In the latest incident, the two men had entered the fast-moving waters to try and save the girl after she drifted from shore, according to Ontario Provincial Police.
"This child had drifted out into the water, and they were attempting to perform a rescue," OPP Const. Peter Leon said. "Unfortunately, they encountered some difficulty and disappeared into the water."
Emergency crews were able to locate the child, who was wearing a life jacket and was unharmed, said Leon.
Her father, 44-year-old Nadim Shah of Chicago, was taken to the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
His brother, 53-year-old Ghulam Badar of Mississauga, was also presumed dead when he was pulled from the water but was revived after arriving at the hospital, said Leon.
Badar was later transported by air ambulance to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie, Ont., where he was listed in critical condition Wednesday evening.
Meanwhile, the body of Peter Ludian, 21, who was visiting from Poland and one of the three men who drowned over the weekend, was recovered near Moon River Wednesday morning.
The bodies of Vladimir Sirghi, 22, of Barrie, and 31-year-old Vladimir Tsimfer, of Mississauga, Ont., were found earlier.
The three men went missing Sunday during a long-weekend stay on the river.
