The Snowbirds' fleet of jets has been cleared to fly in air shows again after an overhaul and inspection of its lap belts, the Department of National Defence said Saturday.

Canada's iconic acrobatic flying team was grounded June 12 because of a problem with the ejection-seat systems used in the jets.

The equipment in question is called the Ballistic Disconnect Link Assembly, a portion of the lap belt system that is designed to automatically come apart during an ejection sequence.

Although the nature of the problem has been identified, its cause is still under investigation by the Directorate of Flight Safety, the Defence department said in a release.

The "operational pause," as the department calls it, affected 27 aircraft using the same kind of ejection seat system, including the 20 CT-114 Tutors that fly with the Canadian military's famous demonstration team.

The repair work means the Snowbirds will make an appearance at the air show in St. Thomas, Ont., this weekend.
