Foreign Affairs Minister Lawrence Cannon said Thursday he will "probably" meet with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton next week.

Cannon, who didn't provide any further details about when the meeting would occur, spoke to CBC News outside Parliament Hill as it geared up for the arrival of U.S. President Barack Obama.

"We'll be fundamentally following up on what is being discussed here today so that … what has to be put in motion will be done," he said.

Cannon and Clinton, who is currently in Asia on her first trip as the top American diplomat, are expected to discuss bilateral relations, along with the war in Afghanistan and the continuing conflict in the Middle East.

Cannon will be part of the official delegation that greets Obama when he arrives at the Ottawa airport later Thursday morning.
