General Motors Corp. is laying off another 2,000 workers, including 700 in Ontario, the company said Friday.

"It's all market driven, as all of our changes have been of late," a spokesman said.

GM is cutting shifts at three factories, starting in February. The cuts include:

• The third shift of 700 workers in Oshawa, Ont., at the Chevrolet Impala plant.
• About 890 workers at Lordstown, Ohio, where the company builds the Chevrolet Cobalt and Pontiac G5.
• The third shift, 390 workers, at the Orion, Mich., plant that builds the Chevrolet Malibu and Pontiac G6.

The layoffs are indefinite because the company does not know when sales will pick up.

GM's Canadian sales fell 23.5 per cent in November, and plunged 41 per cent in the United States.
