The teen disappeared from his Barrie home on Oct. 13 after arguing with his parents over a favourite video game.

Sgt. Dave Goodbrand of the Barrie Police Service said officers chose a new area to scour after studying computer software that tracks their search patterns.

"They feel they would like to do just a bit better search of one little area around the 4th Line of Oro Ridge Road to ensure they did the best possible search," he said.

Officers will also be talking to people walking on the Oro-Medonte Rail Trail, where the boy was last seen and his bicycle was later found, a few kilometres from his home. That area is between 2nd Line and 3rd Line, just east of Barrie.

"We spent nine days doing thorough ground searches with 20 to 30 officers who covered some 40 square kilometres," Goodbrand said, adding they've decided to move to the new area "out of an abundance of caution."

Goodbrand said officers will be examining a thickly wooded rural area, which has some homes nearby.

"We're not far from a lake, so you can only imagine there is a mixed bag of things we have to deal with," he said.

Goodbrand said police are not ruling out the possibility the boy may be in the United States. They believe he had about 200 online gaming contacts, and there is concern one of them may have lured the teen away.

Police are enlisting the help of a popular crime television show in their efforts to find the teen. America's Most Wanted will feature the missing person's case at 9 p.m. ET Saturday on the Fox network.
