Police in Edmonton have issued an Amber Alert in their search for a seven-year-old girl who was reported abducted Sunday by a man in the northeast part of the city.

The child was playing with her two brothers in a park in northeast Edmonton Sunday afternoon when she got into a sport utility vehicle after the driver asked if the children would like to go with him, police said.

The brothers, ages five and nine, went home to alert their mother, who phoned police.

The man was said to be driving a royal blue SUV that was last seen heading westbound on 132A Avenue. The last three digits of the licence plate are 179.

The suspect in the SUV is described as in his late 20s or early 30s and balding with blond hair, a local radio report said. He was described wearing light blue jeans, a dark zip-up jacket and silver-rimmed eyeglasses, police said. He is believed to be six feet tall.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call police at (780) 423 -4567.
