Janet Jackson opened the North American leg of her Rock Witchu tour in Vancouver on September 10. (Darryl Dyck/Canadian Press)Pop singer Janet Jackson was taken to a Montreal hospital Monday evening after falling ill shortly before her latest concert.
According to a statement released by W&W Public Relations in New York, Jackson cancelled the show after she "got suddenly ill" during her sound check.
A representative for the singer said Jackson hopes to reschedule her concert as soon as possible.
Organizers announced the cancellation to concertgoers just five minutes before opening act L.L. Cool J was set to begin his performance.
A spokesperson for Royal Victoria Hospital later said that the 42-year-old Jackson was discharged about two hours after she had checked in Monday night.
No other information about her condition was released.
Two other concerts — in Boston on Wednesday and in Philadelphia on Thursday — have also been postponed as the singer recuperates, according to Jackson's representatives. She is set to resume her tour on Saturday in Greensboro, N.C.
First tour in seven years
After releasing her latest album, Discipline, in March, Jackson kicked off her international Rock Witchu tour — her first in seven years — in Vancouver earlier this month. She performed in Toronto on Sunday night.
"It's been a while, so I really want to make my rounds," she said in an interview this spring.
"There are a lot of places where I really want to stop off at, and that's the idea, that's the goal with this tour."
Last week, Jackson cancelled her concert in Detroit a day before it was to take place, citing "production constraints." It was eventually rescheduled for late October.
